Museum Day June 7, 2008
Each June the family of Nova Scotia Museums host "Museum Day" celebrations. In Pictou, the Northumberland Fisheries Museum, McCulloch House Museum, The Hector National Exhibit Centre, and the Hector Heritage Quay invite residents and visitors to learn about local culture and heritage and join in fun activities for the whole family. Many museums offer free admission on this day, but check in advance to be sure.
New Scotland Days, July 10-September 15, 2008
In recognition of the Hector's role in making Pictou the Birthplace of New Scotland, the New Scotland Days Living Heritage Festival is a community celebration of the pioneer spirit that shaped Pictou County and Nova Scotia. The Festival begins on the anniversary of the departure of the Hector from Scotland on July 10th, and concludes in celebration of its arrival in Pictou on September 15th. Each weekend during the festival special events are scheduled at the award winning Hector Heritage Quay and throughout the community. You can enjoy musical performances, participate in demonstrations on board the replica Ship Hector, meet re-enactors, and much, much more. Welcome to New Scotland and we hope you enjoy the festival!
