Hector Heritage Quay
"Winner of Attractions Canada Award 2002"
The Hector Heritage Quay is one of Nova Scotia's Major cultural tourist attractions. Through the depiction of the story of Scottish migration to the New World, the Hector Heritage Quay introduces visitors to the history and culture of the area. A series of imaginative and informative displays retell the story of the Ship Hector voyage in 1773. The centerpiece of the attraction is a full scale reproduction of the ship Hector. This three masted, fully rigged ship is found on Pictou's historic waterfront. Hear the sizzling sounds of the working blacksmith's forge, and the rhythm of the mallets and chisels of the ship's carpenters, discover the works of the resident artist which depicts the story of the voyage and reconstruction of the ship Hector. Also on location, the Ship Hector Company Story featuring items built on site and official memorabilia. < MORE>


Northumberland Fisheries Museum
The Northumberland Fisheries Museum plays tribute to the fisher folk and industry along the Northumberland Straight. There are over 2,200 artifacts, an authentic fisherman's bunkhouse, rare coloured live lobsters, a viewing room with thousands of pictures on file, boat building models, old restored engines, ship wreck displays and interactive activities. <MORE>


Hector Exhibit Centre
The Hector Exhibit Centre offers a location for rotational displays and exhibits for local artisans to showcase their talents, historians to share their stories, and musicians with traditional Maritime flare. The centre also houses the archives and genealogy information which is available if you are tracing your family tree or researching community history. On-site there is an extensive library of books that pertain to Pictou County, specific communities, churches, historical figures, and cemetery transcriptions of many of the cemeteries in Pictou County. The resources include local groups and individuals, census, church, and cemetery records - vital statistics from local newspapers, indexed, and microfilmed and historical books.  <MORE>


McCulloch House Museum
At McCulloch House Museum, a new, interactive exhibit tells the fascinating story of one of the many groups who settled Nova Scotia. View the many works of Dr. Thomas McCulloch and learn about this prominent educator who achieved international acclaim and paved the way for today's education system. <MORE>


deCoste Entertainment Centre
The deCoste Entertainment Centre is one of the finest venues for performing arts in Eastern Canada. The Centre has presented many renowned entertainers and highly celebrated artists. The deCoste Centre is home of "The Summer Sounds of Nova Scotia" performances during the summer, the Hector Festival in August, and many other shows throughout the year…. <MORE>


Grohmann Knives
Handcrafted Grohmann Knives are recognized around the world for their beauty, balance and quality. They have won more than 25 international honors including a display at the New York's prestigious Museum of Modern Art.  From its Pictou Factory, Grohmann Knives manufactures award winning hunting knives, custom and kitchen knives. The factory outlet also caries many other items and gifts as well offers daily factory tours. <MORE>


Black Battalion Monument
Learn about Canada's first and only all black Battalion from the waterfront memorial. This Battalion reflected the strong determination of Black men to contribute to Canada's First World War effort despite discrimination. Although reluctant to accept Blacks into the armed forces, the Canadian military agreed in 1916 to create a segregated non-combatant unit. Recruited from across Canada and the United States, these eager volunteers were based at Pictou and Truro before going to Europe in 1917. They served primarily in the Canadian Forestry Corps in the Jura region of France where they laboured to supply much needed lumber for the front. The Black Battalion was disbanded in 1920. <MORE>


Pictou Golf Course
Pictou Golf Course is a short but hilly, 1959 yard, par 32, 9 hole course. It presents golfers with established, well maintained greens and fairways that offer spectacular views of Pictou Harbour and the surrounding countryside. Constant ocean breezes, up and downhill lies, well placed bunkers and small greens provide challenge to any golfers. <MORE>

Jitney Walking Trail
Need to fit a break in from meetings and lectures,  take a walk along the Jitney Walking Trail along the waterfront in Pictou. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy a three kilometer trail to the site where the ship Hector made its historic landing in 1773. Park benches are available, allowing you to take in the panoramic views. Along the way you can learn about Pictou through interpretive panels an views of the site the Hector settlers landing. The Jitney Trail connects directly to the Trans Canada Trail System for the more avid hikers.
